Seeing Squares...

I am pleased to report that I have pieced and squared up all my Across the Sea quilt top blocks.

I now need to lay them out into some kind of pleasing pattern; it may be a challenge, as I am hoping not to just go completely random, but we'll see.

I also finished my first mug rug for the Goodie swap.  I am not going to post it in full here or on flickr as I may as well have put a big old sign on it saying who it is for and I don't want to spoil the surprise!  Here's a peek to keep my partner on her twinkle-toes!

It is 8.5" square, so she can put a whole cake on it if she wants, and I suspect she will!

I also invested in some easy-thread needles to finish it off, as suggested by Pings way back when I finished my mum's quilt and had to thread-in a billion lose ends.  Bloody brilliant, thank you!!!

Finally I need to tell someone that I have just seen the most wonderful fabric almost ever!!  I don't get that feeling too often, although the Ruby Star Spring was 'up there'.  Did you see aforementioned Ping's quilt top - wow!

This was complete and utter love at first sight this morning.  Across The Pond by Michelle Engel Bencsko for Cloud 9; just look...

The heron is our village's 'symbol', there's one that comes to the pond at the end of our road each year, so I am thinking it would be kind of special to make something from this.  The line is already available from Hawthorne Threads, but I will have to settle for just looking at it online just now, sob sob sniff!

  2. That comment about cake sounds rather close to home for me! Or do I just like cake too much?!

  3. Are you my partner? I like cake! And lots of it! Tell me its mine?

Also, you are such an enabler! I've already spent this months (and half of next months) fabric budget but I am getting a serious case of the wanties!

Finally, please tell me how you got an invite to pinterest? I have submitted my email and requested an invite about 50millionty times and yet... nothing.

  4. Och, that's a mean wee peak, missus!! You horror. I'm loving your across the sea blocks - GREAT colours. And isn't is fab when fabric just speaks (shouts!) to you? It doesn't happen often to me, either but when it does? Look out for the smokin' credit card. Let the plastic take the drastic as me auld Dad always says...

  8. Go you on the QAL blocks! I've got as far as chain piecing the 'arms' and will need to get up close and personal with the iron this evening before they move onto the next step.

I'm not looking at the fabrics, as I've just signed up for the Echino swap. She's doing a sign up where the fabric is just sent to her, and she does all the cutting before sending it out to you. Are you SURE you don't want to play? ;o)

  9. Your blocks are gorgeous - that will be a glorious quilt - which size are you doing?

Too sneaky a peak for me to guess though sadly as I haven't mentioned cake I guess it is not for me :(! Unless that is red herring! You could save postage and just give it to me....!

  13. Wow you've done your blocks already? I've not even pulled my fabric - how rubbish does that make me? Added to which I've not even started on goodies for the goody swap (unless thinking about it counts!) I will be making a banana loaf later which might help me focus on the perfect mug rug no?
