Economic with the truth...

I started the day with some secret sewing - so you'll have to wait for a reveal of that some time sooner or later, sorry!

But after that, I played with my #economyblockalong fabrics.  Oh it took me ages to go all random!!  I lost 4 fussy-cut centres for 1/2 an hour; stuck to the back of some of the bigger cuts, not back in my scrap bin, favourite fabric box or DS stash, oh I checked!

So I made up my first 10.  I started with my least favourite combinations, and I love 6 of them, feel a bit non-plused by 2 and two have made it to the judge's house, but may not make the final!

This one I just had to unpick, could not live with, even though it looks better in the photo...

The fact it looks better in the picture makes me wonder now if some of those perfect combos and quilts I have spotted, and envied, maybe don't look so fab in real life?  I know I often have to look at photos of quilt layouts to get the right perspective, but this is more sinister!

For now I won't do anything rash, as I suspect the dodgy ones will blend right in at the end; so I will stitch on, and on, and on xxx

  1. I like way more than you do - keep stitching and I think you'll find happiness too!

  2. I am very sorry if I am an awful person, but I really would have to get rid of the one that says See Dick in the middle!

  3. My favourite is the one with the scissors in the middle, I also really like the top row. Like Catherine I don't think I personally would have a See Dick in my quilt!!! Maybe it is only me that would think rude thoughts though.

  4. Love the sewing machine and the scissors! These are such cute blocks.

  5. The See Dick gave me quite a laugh, there. I think you're right that when you put a whole lot of them together in a quilt top that the ones you don't love will disappear into the overall affect.

  8. I think you should maybe have left that sentence as 'I lost it for half an hour' ;o) I don't think I've ever met a sinister quilt block before...

  9. I'm not sure how I feel about the possibility of sinister 'we photograph much better than we really are' quilts but it's definitely one to ponder!

  10. Not too sure about Dick either, though Dick did make me smile. Isn't it amazing the difference between the before and after.

  11. I love the See Dick, but that's my humour! I much prefer the after, though on the last one. I think that red text fabric was the problem, the columns layout looks wrong in that block. Really like the others though.

  12. Oh they all look great & I agree with you about seeing a quilt in a photograph it sometimes changes your whole opinion of this or that!

  13. Just keep stitching! BTW, I destashed that Dick and Jane text fabric and could just kick myself for doing that....

  14. giggling at all those ladies with dirty minds. *I* would NEVER have noticed the giant "Dick" in the middle of that block. Oh no. Not me.

  15. Dick did make me smile! I made an economy block quilt top ( not yet made it into a quilt yet) last year. The less lovely blocks do blend in and after making so many , you end up not caring about the last few anyway!

  16. See Dick has to sneak in there somewhere - just to see who has that sort of sense of humour!!

  17. Great sewing! I say keep the ones that you don't love now - they will still blend right in when you get to a finish, I'm sure!

  18. Well I think your blocks are looking fab!

  19. I think we're more critical of our work than everyone else. They all look great to me, especially when you add more into the mix! I'm really trying to stay out of this but I think resistance is futile......!!!!

  20. I think Dick will not be noticed once he's with all the others. Neither will the one's you're not sure of. And I'm with the running hare - by the time you've finished you won't care!

  21. I think all blocks will blend perfectly when you're done. And photographs usually make you look at the whole, where you tend to look at the details in "real life" especially of your own work (focusing on individual fabrics, blocks or even (!) mistakes)

  22. I love Dick. *sniggers* Sorry. I'd totes leave it in to see who spots him. It. And have you ever had a quilt that looks amazing but doesn't photograph well? No reason that the opposite can't be true too, I suppose.

  23. All the blocks are so cheerful and love the fussy cutting. Think I may have to join in ~

  24. These economy blocks are taking over the world! Really like the scissors block and would keep all of them in the frame, even the See Dick block :)

  25. All the blocks look good, you did a great job. I agree the second version of the unpicked block looks best but if I hadn't seen that one I would have thought the first looked ok too. But I know the feeling when you just have to change it when it's not quite right.

  28. It must say something about my mind that I would make sure I included the "see dick" block, it makes me giggle! :o)

  29. Yep I'm also a "see Dick" giggler.....! I love this sew along but I have my own scrappy endeavours to be on with, is it using up a lot of scraps for you?

  30. See, something tells me that See Dick was completely intentional and the quilt just wouldn't be 'you' without it!

I keep on saying that I'm going to have to join in,but I haven't touched my sewing machine in over a week:-(
