Scale...

I was wondering, do you always check the scale of prints when you order fabric, or do you just love a print and not care?

I sometimes check, Fat Quarter Shop is pretty good with its 8" swatch pics, but most of the time I assume.

When I was filling my basket with some Kona Snow from Cindy's Fluffy Sheep Quilting, I just had to have those Oh Deer deer!  I didn't even think to check the scale, which in this case was probably a good thing, (for my wallet), otherwise I would have ended up ordering miles of it!!!

Look how cute these deer are...

I honestly thought they were going to be at least twice the size.  I don't remember ever having been caught out in a bad way, but I am now thinking that has been more luck than judgement.

Another print I am currently playing with, one of Aneela's Cherry Christmas prints, has robins which are tiny; I was expecting them to be the same size as the ones we embroidered at FQ Retreat, they are so not!

These are 1" hexies...

So go ahead, tell me I am a divvy, and that you always double check!  Some of you I might believe, others, not so much!

  2. I never check details like that! I'm sure you won't be surprised at that ;)

  3. I have been surprised more than once. But that may be because I have no idea what six inches is *guffaw*

  4. I usually end up the other way round, thinking a print is smaller than in real life. Some shops put measurements on their photos which helps. But I still love the deer and birds and still want some.

  5. No I'm not a checker. If I love it I buy it! The deer and robins are very cure!

  6. Maybe I'm a bit obsessive, but I almost always check. I was surprised by the size of those deer when I was window shopping and checking scale - I expected them to be bigger. Love them in orange!

  7. I have never checked but had a disaster recently. I ordered a fat quarter of an elephant print from RUcraft (actually I oredered 2 separate ones in different colours), there was no scale given and from the picture it looked like lots of tiny elephants, when it came each elephant was nearly 25cm tall!!! Each fq had i elephant and bits of others, huge disapointment.

  8. The only time I thought to check was the Japanese print swap! I tend to prefer to buy fabric 'in person' though, I am scared of getting a disaster online, so I have been ok so far. But I would have expected those to be bigger too.

  9. Naaaaa....every fabric has its uses...and if it's not what I expected it stretches me to do something else with it.

  10. Those deer are cute...and no, I'm useless at scale but it usually turns out okay.

  11. Umm no I never really check. I remember wanting some of the melody miller records for a project until I saw them used and realised they were far bigger than I imagined and they're further spread apart. It's a shame I didn't remember that when I fell off the not-buying-fabric-wagon as I went and bought some...hmmm some people never learn!

  12. I only try and check if it is a charm swap - otherwise I'm happy to be surprised!

  13. It depends why I'm buying it...(which is another way of saying 'Not always"!) The deer and robins are so very, very cute!

  14. I have an Oh Deer charm pack, so be warned if you fancy the bird print!

  15. I do try to remember to check the scale if I don't already know it, but I often forget. Those deer are adorable.

  16. Nah, I never do. And was caught out when Wind Blossom was MASSIVE! But cool and I loved her even more. Course, now my "want a bit of Oh, deer!" has hit "I NEED some!" I hadn't realised they are so weeny. So much more useable!

  17. 98 percent of the time I never check. And I'm quite sure that is an accurate percentage--haha.

  18. Usually when I am trying to decide on fabric I will end up on FQS at some point and their swatches are very useful. But if it's not on FQS then no I don't check! Your prints are v cute though x

  21. I never check either, it's more fun that way :-)

  22. I never check! If I like it I order it.... Simple as that.

  23. Nup. I never check and I can never remember being disappointed. Cute cute deers!

  24. I don't normally check either! I ordered some of 'How to make a pillowcase' text fabric recently and was very surprised as the words are much bigger than I thought. Love the deer but they really are tiny!

  25. Yes I have been caught out by not checking.....those deer are very sweet and I love the little robins too...just right for hexies!

  26. Nah, dont really check things like that, and yeah I get caught out all the time... the worst being ordering 2 yards of a print from spoonflower for a specific project, then finding the print I expected to be about 1" or less, and it was about 3" or 4" and totally useless for what I had in mind.. OUCH.

  27. I'm rubbish at checking, but have never been disappointed ith a fabric!!!

  28. Nope, we'll 99% of the time I never check, like Rhonda, if I like it I order it! Only once got something completely wrong, but that's the luck of the draw!

  29. I never check scale but I do find a lot of shops don't actually volunteer this information to you either! I upload designs to Spoonflower and the viewing a print at scale is one of my favourite things about their service. I always upload bigger than I was expecting, not sure what that is about.

  30. I was also surprised by how tiny the little deer were...but it was a great surprise! I love them :)
