Thank you for your patience...

Well the sun didn't exactly make an appearance, but at least it stopped raining.  The minute I got home this afternoon after the recorder concert, (not quite sure what Trading Standards would make of that, seeing as they have only learnt 3 notes; yes, one hour, 3 notes, many, many times!), I was out in the garden...

Here it is...

Denyse Sings The Blues - and about time too!
You don't need to hear the 'poor light, looks better in real life blah', just use your imaginations a little.

The quilting is a made up of lots of squares of varying sizes - if I were able to get the hang of FMQing, I would probably have managed to do an all over interlinked continuous path, but for me, lots of stop-start and threads to bury.  After my initial reservations, I am really happy with how this washed up.

I love and probably favour dense quilting, but this is a lot softer and works.  I am not sure whether this will be for snuggling or show, it's too early - I am still in shock at actually finishing it!

The backing is a Klona blue and cuts of all the prints I used for the flowers.  Scrappy sashing, again with various lengths of the leftovers, with a long strip of white added in along one edge, which makes me smile!

It has shrunk up to about 58" square.

If you have not made a Retro Flowers block or quilt, it is definitely worth a go - I do love how it looks; just hated all the little sashing bits, and there are so many seams, so much pressing.  It is not the most complicated set of blocks I have made, perhaps the repetition got to me in the early days, but I am so glad I got it finished.

  3. Really really love this pattern and the fabric you have used. I can only imagine what a recorder concert with 3 notes sounds like! I expect you will need a cup of tea and a sit down after that.

  7. Gorgeous. I love how well all the DS Quilts fabrics play together - I am a fan because they are readily available here in NZ and cheaper than quilt shop fabrics, especially because they're almost always on sale!

  8. Congratulations!! I definitely think it was worth the effort, but I hear ya on the monotony of seams/pressing. My attention span is limited to making bags at the moment. I just can't seem to get my energy up for a long-running project. Well done to finish this beauty!

  13. You are a good mummy! My 2yr old son has a recorder and I have a friend who hides it every time she comes over. Someone gave her son one for his birthday and she threw it away before he had the chance to play it! Gorgeous quilt and well worth finishing it! I love the klona blue, it's very pretty!

  14. Oooh it's so been worth the hard work, it's looks beautiful, I really want one now! I guess I have the joys of recorder concerts all to come, although as I have boys maybe it will be something like drums instead, oh my ears hurt just thinking about it

  15. Wait for clarinet recitals, when they bugger up the notes it just makes a farting noise. A handful of notes and a lot of farting sounds for an hour and a half + 5 kids giggling while standing in front of about 40 adults just before the october holidays - I'm praying she gets fed up of playing it!
Your quilt is lovely, I would put it in the "Show" pile for all the work you have put into it :)

P.S. An hour? Good grief, they like to make you suffer...I used to teach the beginners in the recorder group and it was torture!

  20. What a beauty. I know what you mean about the quitting- I love the look of dense straight-line quilting but a bit more space does make for a softer warmer quilt- still haven't managed to get light and dryness in combo outside to photograph the one I've just done! I can only imagine the tension in the shoulders of the supportive parent audience after 60mins!
