Playing Shop...

Sunday morning, whilst still in bed, I was pondering my next Hadley quilt, you know, the Denyse Schmidt one, and I got all panicky that I wouldn't be able to back it with something worthy; some things just need more than the IKEA numbers.

So then I searched out an eBay seller from my dreams!  If you are in the UK, take a look here, and I dare you to resist - you want a bargain, trust me, I am the one to find you one...

One of my favourite Chicopee prints - a whole bolt!!!

Yup, a bolt, my first (and probably last, in reality), for a ridiculous price (for us in the UK at least!).  I know we moan all the time, but with a meter now coming in at about £14 here, and with the exchange rate, mailing costs and dreaded import duty-sting, it makes bulk US shopping almost as expensive.  So to buy 8m for £5/m and free delivery, of something you actually want, nay, need, I had palpitations.

So half of it is earmarked for the quilt, and the other half will be cropping up frequently, I have plans for my FQR swapsies and a few other bits and pieces that I need to make.  Hope you don't get bored of seeing it non-stop for the next 6 months!

Right, must fly.  The clock is ticking and Jack only has 24hrs to save the world!

  3. Score!!! That's a find. I remember UK being very hard on my wallet and prices in familiar chains having the dollar sign changed to pounds and thinking, "wha.....?" This blouse is $45 CAD at home and 45 quid here? Yikes. Import duty between Canada and US is lower but with the shipping increase last year, it's tough. Luckily, my local has a deal on Final Fridays (last Friday of the month) where if you take what's left on the bolt, you get 40% off it. I score a lot of solids and good prints that way when I have a little money left at the end of the month. Of course, it's even better for my wallet if I have to work that day and can't get to the fabric store... :-)

  19. Just started following you and came across this post. I just had to say that I love your taste in fabric...and TV shows. We now refer to Monday nights at 9 (that's when it's on here in the States) as the "Jack Bauer Power Hour" in this house. (Wish I could take credit for that, but it's actually someone's Instagram handle!) BTW, I am in love with the rainbow star & IKEA numbers quilt in your banner!

  20. Great pick up! I know, the US post rates are crippling us now. Our Aussie dollar is still good against theirs, but not as good. Still it works out cheaper than us paying our ridiculous $22AUD metre. I visited my local quilt shop the other day, and after two years of online fabric shopping I cannot buy full priced fabric anymore. It seemed morally wrong, which is probably morally wrong because we should support local business. I can't do it though. Fabric has to be on sale with big reductions for me to buy it locally now.
