FMQ Friday Fun!

OK - I am not doing this for the love of it - I am doing this because it's Friday and it's been a long week and you all deserve a laugh!

Linking up with Cindy & co. again to show you my misadventures in quilting.

Tonight we should be showing our wonderful 'drop art', think lovely raindrops, or the super cute Prince Charming print, then try not to laugh your head off at this...

I have to confess I did this last Saturday when I was 'in a mood' and this did not help!  I must also point out that I forgot to change my stitch length to zero - doh!

I read somewhere in the week that I should maybe abandon the pedal and use 'the button' instead to keep the speed constant - after my one and only attempt at that, and getting into a 'runaway' machine fiasco, I am a little dubious - but I promise to try it out and I'll show you next week.

I haven't had the chance before posting this to check out everyone-else's attempts, which may or may not be wise, but that'll be my entertainment/education for the evening!

PS.  Thank you for all your lovely comments about my Grandma's potential cushion - the 'cake idea' wins by a mile - and that means shopping!  I'm thinking rik-rak and buttons... watch this space x

  1. Must admit that they look more like stalagmites and stalactites than rain drops but think they look good from here and they're far, far better than anything I could do! Love your cushion idea - can't go far wrong with ric rac and buttons!

  2. Helen`s idea was my first thought but then I came up with bunches of grapes or hemorroids. Take your pick as it were. I haven`t had a chance to do mine so feel free to be as acerbic as you desire when I finally do! Granny`s cushion sounds lovely, even if my choice didn`t win!

  3. Well I think you need to think of the pedal like you do when driving the car, and the edges of the piece are the stop/giveway marks of the road. Remember it's ok to stop and take stock of where you are, take a breath and then plan your next move. They will start to look better, it's not a race :) But you did good!

  4. Hehehe Thats not so bad! None of them are jaggy or joined up with each other, they are drop shaped! I'd say good start :-)

  6. I am obviously not one to judge, but having my science background I immediately thought of intestinal villi. Still looks miles better than my sausages! I've thought about trying the no-pedal approach but I'm quite sure it would be a train wreck.

  7. It's not as bad as you make out Hadley - you definitely have the right shape but I think doing this when you are tense doesn't help - you need to be relaxed to let it flow - get that glass of wine and smile!

  8. I haven't got a button - but I suppose it's only good if it goes at a manageable speed! Your drops are looking good to me :)

  9. This isn't bad at all. I think your going to be really surprised how fast you improve. Great job, keep going!

  11. Well I give you huge points for giving it a go. I still haven't tried more than straight-line quilting myself.

  12. I think it's fine, as for the "button" I won't be even trying that, you need to press it on and off, that means moving one hand from your fabric right?....not the best idea here!!!

  13. totally and completely understand the button...runaway machine moment. it is so exciting and scary and frustrating all at the same time! mostly just scary and frustrating.

  14. It's not that bad at all compared to my fmq!! Looking forward to the piece of cake! Jxo

  15. I am not a fan of the button because it doesn't allow for the times when I want to slow down. The speed of the machine must coincide with the movement of your hands. I have never found much success in using the button but everyone has their way so give it a try. Can't wait to see more results. I think you are doing quite good!

  16. I think this looks pretty good. I went on a free style quilting course this week I was rubbish...really thought it would be easier than it was. I have always hand quilted. I am told the walking foot is easier.

  17. honestly I did crack a smile looking at this but I think it's because I came after just looking at Nicky's (she is putting us all to shame!!). I also agree they look like stalagmites and stalactites! I also see a twiglet in the middle at the bottom!! The curves do look really good. Mine's going to be a shocker next week.

  18. Never fmq 'in a mood'! Just like I should never piece in a mood because I always make so many mistakes I become much moodier still. That being said, it isn't as bad as you make out. Not an easy design to fmq as it is!

  19. It's great! Don't put yourself donw - we're all learning and we'll all improve. Now, Nicky, on the other hand is excelling and we need to boot her out of our practice-a-long crew.

  20. Och, it's much closer to the drops than the waves were, you're improving no end :oD I have a button on the new machine, but haven't braved using it yet...

  21. I don't think its bad at all. And it has the benefit that you can see what you have done, which on mine is difficult, as I didn't choose the right thread. it is fine.
