So for this weeks' instalment, Cindy set the quest for Slate Tiles, kind of squares, regular but irregular all at the same time...
How difficult could that be? I'll show you!
So I tried, on polycotton (big mistake!); I kept forgetting which way I was meant to be going, and the fabric was invariably going the other way!
Then I figured I'd revisit the earlier patterns in minature...
Hmmm? |
WTF!? |
The front didn't look as bad as the back! I am not fiddling with the tension until I have got round to using cotton fabric with cotton batting, which I will go for this week, and perhaps it'll be perfect.
Shocking! |
The polycotton might as well have been coated in teflon, I managed to produce a lot of static trying to move the bloody fabric around. I have some unused gardening gloves somewhere which I need to find, but I can imagine getting fed up with wearing those very quickly.
In the week I did find some of those rubber thimble things for counting paper/money and thought they could be fun; picture a child-friendly version of Freddy Kruger/Edward Thimblehands! The quest goes on!
Shouldn't that be "Hadley Thumb Fingers!"? Just remember - practice makes perfect! Oh, are you having fun yet! ;-))
ReplyDeleteNot as bad as you make out Hadley! Your name looks great as do the drops and squares! It will be better on cotton...
ReplyDeleteThanks for the warning, I'm so glad I put down my tea! Your name looks great - maybe because you have more muscle memory of that series of movements? Keep going, it'll get easier!
ReplyDeleteI think you are all really game doing this so publicly..
ReplyDeleteOh Hadley this is hilarious!!!! sorry ;)
ReplyDeleteThe wave is truly deserving of the wtf!!!
The loops and your name, on the other hand look brilliant! The stitching looks much better! I'm sure using cotton will make things better :) If not I'd appreciate another warning!
"Mummy rubber fingers"! Your name looks great, not so sure about those tiles :)
ReplyDeletewtf! Ditch the poly, it aint worth it honey! Go with quality, that's what you make your regular quilts with, so why bother practicing with the tat! Keep going Hadders it all counts as practice, and practice really does pay off!
ReplyDeletehere in the south, we have a saying... "bless your heart". it can mean lots of things, like 'poor thing' or 'that's precious'... etc.
ReplyDeletehaving said that... it's not THAT bad.
I think you did best with writing your name. Not doing badly at all.
ReplyDeleteOk so your wave is different... but the doodles and your name look great! I love doodling FMQ designs, most fun way to practice! Keep going! :)
ReplyDeleteLol wtf indeed!!! Actually your name is great but, seriously, ditch the poly, it's so slippy you will never have the same control :-)
ReplyDeleteName look really good!I got a pair of those sewing gloves.....expensive but helped although I am pretty useless at it :(
ReplyDeleteYou have done MUCH better than I ever could...well done xx
ReplyDeleteHadley, I am laughing out loud at this post. This is hilarious! Your little pebbles look good and your name is totally read-able which is promising :) I'm sure if you go back to cotton you'll be just fine :)
ReplyDeleteOch it's not THAT bad, tad lumpy in places, but still looks okay on the top - just tell everyone they're not allowed to turn your quilts over and you're sorted...
ReplyDeleteI also thought of those orange thimbley things the other day, how funny!
Well, its not quite at professional level, perhaps. But it's not so bad. and your name looks great. I must try that sometime- it will probably be unreadable.
ReplyDeleteActually, I think it`s a great effort and I practiced writing too and yours is sooo much better. Fab Hadley!
ReplyDeleteyou are improving. your name looks awesome and i did laugh at your wtf... mine would look worse!
ReplyDeleteYou are cracking me up! Cotton has another upside for sure. I like the gardening gloves but they must fit right or you will be chucking them in the bin. I hope you are at least enjoying yourself.
ReplyDeleteYou might laugh at this, but I cut the fingertips off a pair of surgical gloves I had in my first aid kit. (Tried the full glove buy my hands sweat in 30 seconds). Put the pinky tip on my index finger so it was tight, also put them on my thumb and middle finger. Working for me - like it better than my 'Machingers' gloves.
ReplyDeleteA hint I was told was to lay your hand FLAT and don't try to 'fingertip quilt.' That helped me more than anything. I'm new at this too, but am determined to conquer my fear of FMQ, too!
I think your efforts are not bad at all considering! Your name looks cool and I have a tendency to go a bit mad and do my own thing eventually too!
ReplyDeletex
Whew hew! It looks like you decided to go all out and just have some crazy fun. That the way to show it who is boss!! Can't wait for this week's version...
