My first needle shattered into 4 pieces (one of which I think is still embedded in the seam allowance somewhere!). I was going to save all the 'how I did it' details for my reveal post, but let's just say at this particular point there were 16 layers including 4 of batting!! I thought there were 14, but on a re-count it went up to 16, so I guess it was no surprise.
The second needle objected to the end of the zipper getting in the way; like they do.
But I have gone on to handstitch and neaten up both ends of the zip, because they were looking a bit roapy, and that took a good couple of hours; and once I get some more needles, I only have to box the corners and sew the lining closed.
Before I sorted the zip ends. |
That was quick! It looks really good. Di x
ReplyDeleteI was looking at this pattern just today! I do like the non-contrasting bottom.
ReplyDeleteIt looks so beautiful! Do you think the needle remains will cause those security thingies to go off at the airport?! Could lead to an interesting discussion!!!!!
ReplyDeleteI always get overly anxious when needles break and usually give up, well done for persevering, it looks great.
ReplyDeleteYour bag looks fabulous Hadley! I have been using denim needles to sew through the layers on the bags I have been making lately and have still managed to break a few of those too.
ReplyDelete16 layers!!!!!! Are you mad? I would have given up well before the second broken needle! It's looking lovely though!
ReplyDeleteWow, looking orangey-lishious! Were you using a 100 size denim/jeans needle? Jxo
ReplyDeleteVery juicy looking!!! The thought of those 16 layers does rather put me off having a go myself though - the machine would go into shock!!!
ReplyDeleteSo close and yet so far, foiled at the last! Hope more size 16 needles are on the shopping list...
ReplyDeleteLooking good!
ReplyDeleteI've been snapping needles and then some recently - enjoy your family time and the bag is looking beautiful.
ReplyDeleteWow, 16 layers, that's darn right impressive! I love your fabric. I hope you have a wonderful day with your family :)
ReplyDeletewhen you make up your mind to make something you don't mess around. It's a stunner.
ReplyDeleteIt's looking great, but I think youve just made up my mind that I won't be tackling it!!!
ReplyDeleteI love the orangeness of it! Brilliant job so far Hadley and well done for persevering!
ReplyDeletelooks great! I think I had better get hold of some denim needles for my attempt.
ReplyDeleteGorgeous bag H, annoying about the breaking needles, I always get an awful fright when that happens, it makes a racket!
ReplyDeleteWithout a doubt the most beautiful bag I have seen made in a VERY long time. Wish it was mine!
ReplyDeleteAlways impressed with your ability to get things done with three children around - amazing! It's a lovely bag!
ReplyDeleteOh Hadley - your bag is stunning!
ReplyDeleteBautiful bag, no wonder the needle couldn't take it, that is some serious layering!!
ReplyDelete16 layers? I can hear my machine having a fit from here.... Good luck!
ReplyDeleteYikes! That's a lot of batting! Looks fab, though!! Just keep swimming ;)
ReplyDeleteVery nice!
ReplyDeleteIt looks gorgeous! I'm so glad I have this pattern. Great fabric choice.
ReplyDeleteI love the orange color! Keep up the good work and thanks for the laugh (in the comments about the needle piece setting off alarms) on this cold Thursday afternoon.
ReplyDeleteIt's wonderful - I can't get over how quickly you work, you'll never gather any moss ;o) (I, on the other hand, am covered in the stuff...)
ReplyDeleteEeee I love this, great fabric pick too x
ReplyDeleteOh that bag is looking the business!
ReplyDeleteIt's gorgeous. Just beautiful. And I've had enough skipped stitches and shattered needles on thick projects… I tend to switch to the denim needles for the thick stuff. They break less. Stupid needles.
