To be honest, yesterday could have been worse. The heating engineers might not have been able to come and install a new pump and get the house all warm again before this weekend's freeze; the car could have been completely buggered and rinsing out the fuel might not have worked and dear husband might not have been home from a work conference to sort it all out.
There were other things that were never going to turn out great, but because everything else was sorted before teatime, coping became an option again.
So last night I pulled half a dozen of my favourite fabrics, those that remind me of people, places and happy times and cut simple 2.5" squares and made them into a quilted cushion panel. Simple has a time and place, and last night was it...
OK so when I got making up the actual cushion this afternoon, there was a one of these...
... quarter-inch foot vs zig-zag stitch clanger; but I soon had it sorted...
I have just finished hand-stitching the binding, I am going to try and think of something witty to stamp on the back and it will be ready for delivering to an amazing friend on the weekend xxx
Simple pleasures :) glad you've had a better day x
ReplyDeleteLove it! And I do that to needles on the zipper foot all the time. It accounts for 90% of my needle breakages.
ReplyDeleteThis is a beautiful cushion! I've been getting tired of the keep calm thing. I saw a sign saying 'panic and freak out!' It was so refreshing - but maybe sewing is a better solution :)
ReplyDeleteShe'll love it! Jxo
ReplyDeleteGorgeous pillow cover - so bright and colourful. Hope things are on the improve!
ReplyDeleteWe've all done that zigzag blunder! Beautiful cushion, I do hope your excitement is all done with.
ReplyDeleteI have never, ever managed to break a needle on anything other than very thick layers of fabric that Baby Brother couldn't swallow, I am seriously impressed! (Big Brother also won't let me do the wrong stitch with the wrong foot ;o) )
ReplyDeletePoor hubby to have to do all that sorting on arriving home - phew! Your quilt looks so pretty! And I love your polaroid shots - cute.
ReplyDeleteRegularly break needles like that (doh)! Simple sewing can bring balance back to life. Your friend will love the cushion. Di x
ReplyDeleteOooo lovely, I know where that's heading! I've done that needle thing too, it always makes me jump out of my skin! x
ReplyDeleteLovely, I'm sure that your friend will adore this. P.S am I still a no reply blogger.
ReplyDeleteLove the fabric choices! Lucky friend to have you!
ReplyDeleteThat is a lovely cushion and I am glad some things turned out not too bad. I hope it will be better next week.
ReplyDeleteIt's crazy that I recognize most of those fabrics but I am glad to be hoarding them until I can sew simple again.
ReplyDeleteI have done that needle thing more than I care to admit. Looks like a nice little project was made in spite of the day.
ReplyDeleteOh no, yesterday sounds as though it may have been a little trying!
ReplyDeleteThat does sound like a very trying day, did you put the wrong fuel in the car, re the rinsing? It's so nice to see I'm not the only one whose foot and needle have a fight on zig zag mode, half my quarter inch foot is broken due to that, and more needles than i want to think about! The quilted cushion looks fab, hope you have a great weekend with your amazing friend. :o)
ReplyDeleteah yes, I have done that more than once. You'd think I would learn. Hahahaha! Glad the day got better xx
ReplyDeleteSome days are like that but its helpful to look at the good point and hopefully they will out weigh the bad....pretty patchwork :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like an awful day, glad some of it could be fixed! Love your cushion!
ReplyDeleteGreat make and lets hope for no more dramas on the home front!
ReplyDeleteI actually bought protective googles home from work because I have a tendency to break needles violently. Glad your day got better and the cushion is lush!
ReplyDeleteSnap! I did excatly the same thing last week. Yea for simple. Yea for amazing friends and yes for lovely present husbands to do stuff.
ReplyDeleteOh man, that sounds like an awful day! Your preservation totally paid off.
ReplyDeleteOh I hope your heating gets fixed quickly, ours just got done on Thursday after the tank fractured and water went through the living room ceiling! Keep warm and chin up - as long as we have light and power to sew with it'll all be ok! Lovely cushion btw! xx
