World Book Day...

A 'world' day, that it seems no-one outside of the UK knows about, is pretty random in itself, but these backgrounds, chosen by the individuals pictured, are pretty out there...

Today they donned their gladrags and made the most of the sunny weather...

Year 5's theme was JK Rowling, and Year 3 had Julia Donaldson.  I think they looked great.

  3. We love the books from Julia. You did such a great job making the dresses. I would love if they did it here as well! But we bought books for book day so lets go reading....

  6. I am so glad our school opted out again this year - are there any parents who need more stress?

  8. I wish our schools did this. This is so fun to see all my UK friends posting photos of their kids in costume of their favorite book character

  10. We have Book Day here - but its in August here. Also, the school where the grand kids go, don't do themes, they just pick a favourite character. The costumes look great!

  14. such a good idea to give them a theme. I hate the open-endedness of it otherwise. Argh!

  19. They look fabulous!
Our school did it today and as they where having an author in who has written a Viking book, they asked if the children would dress as vikings not any character they wanted! So my 8yo son has gone on a sulk and went in, in his uniform!!

  21. oh my that Prof Quirrel turban is inspired! Well done you! Our world book day morning ended as usual in a fancy dress melt down en route to school! someones costume is always too itchy/long/not quite right isn't it and with 3 kids i guess it's decent odds that someone will loose it each year!

  24. We know about world book day in Australia, but don't do a dress up for it every year. It's too much work for the parents! Last year my daughters class dressed up to the theme heroes and villains.
