So, to recap... I made a number of blocks under Sheila's excellent tutor-ledge, but at the time I wasn't all that at or about paper-piecing and so by the latter blocks, I just gave up. My blatant hatred of my chosen fabric didn't help, and so the Mystery Quilt sat neglected for the whole of last year's Winter Stitching Plans and the first two FAL quarters!
I had tried some white sashing, that didn't work, so I cut it up, yep, all the blocks except one, into 4.5" squares and then just sewed them randomly back together again, along with a few extras' simply backed it with the last of the yellow peril, didn't bother with batting and was done.
It has found love as a garden/picnic blanket for the kids. To be honest, it no longer fills me with a feeling of nausea, and the fact that it is finished, and used, makes it all the better.
In some light, I have to admit, it actually looks quite nice!
This was not taken today! |
What's important is you're (kind-of) happy with it, that it's done and that you'll use it. Bravo for finding a solution that works for you!
ReplyDeleteWhat's with the bright pink square. See all the cool stuff goes over my head. Perfect use of a project that was too pretty to languish in the WIP bin.
ReplyDeleteLoving the picnic table cloth!! And the pop of fushia pink is awesome!!!
ReplyDeletenothing worse than sewing something you don't like, I know after just finishing several commissions I detested! Well done for getting there! x
ReplyDeleteWow, that's a radical approach. Slash n sew!
ReplyDeleteIt makes a perfect picnic blanket. I think it's pretty, glad you finished it and are getting to use it, bet it's nice to not have to think about it any more!
ReplyDeleteDone is,done! And done and being used, even by the kids is a result with a capital R! And the pink?
ReplyDeleteit is very pretty and that pink square is awesome!
ReplyDeleteGreat to see it completed and being useful. Think about what it taught you.... We don't make mistakes just lessons learned. I love the rogue pink square!
ReplyDeleteIt is a pretty quilt - but doesn't seem "you" I have to agree - despite the rogue pink square. It works fantastically well as a garden quilt for the children (and anyway if you loved all your quilts as much as say your Brit Bee Constellation quilt, then the kids would never get to take any out to use and abuse!)
ReplyDeleteThat's the funniest thing. It does look pretty and will be a great kids' picnic blanket thingy.
ReplyDeleteGenius! Jxo
ReplyDeleteThat where it disappeared to. Nice to find a way to work it in.
ReplyDeleteGreat use for a not so favorite project. Much better than leaving it as a UFO. Another Bravo for you
ReplyDeleteLove the pink
ReplyDeleteThat's why quilts sometimes need to be put away to mature - we need to have time to fall back in love with them, and remember why we started to make them! Well worth persevering with this, it looks great!
ReplyDeleteI think it looks great in all its greeness, but I am pretty sure your follower count just dropped by one ;-)
ReplyDeleteI love it! It looks great on the picnic table. The pop of pink is cool! X
ReplyDeleteROFL, well at least someone loves it, even it they are only 4ft or so ;o) Looks like it's make great camo on the grass too...
ReplyDeleteBetter finished and used than languishing in a cupboard!! Love the pink square!
ReplyDeleteHa ha! I wondered what you were going to do with those blocks, since your enthusiasm wained :) very resourceful of you..
ReplyDeleteYou are freaking hysterical!
ReplyDeleteit's bloody nice, I think
ReplyDeleteAw Hadley, I am so behind on my blog reading - I am so pleased that you made something out of the Mystery, always better finished than in a cupboard.
ReplyDeleteOh I see I have almost said exactly what Helen said - great minds.
Now, how do I unfollow???
