Punked!

Last night hubby and I went to Brighton to see The Damned.

They are dear husband's favourites, so it was only right I went along too.  I wouldn't have missed the 'crowd watching' for the world!

For those who are unaware of this band, despite their 35 year career (and counting), it doesn't take a mathematical genius to work out that those teenage punk fans of 35 years ago are now all pushing 50!

I was only 6 when these guys started up, and hubby wasn't much older, and I'd say we have grown old gracefully; but some of last night's audience were still clinging desperately to their teens, whilst the remainder looked like they were at a Phil Mitchell convention!

It was fun for all the wrong reasons, I am shattered now and still have a tardis to design!

But before I go, here are some pics of the lovely surprises I received in the mail today - a couple of Amy Butler bag patterns from **nicke

Look Denyse Schmidt paper!!
I think I am going to have to seriously psych myself up to making those; and then out of the blue, a Runner's Up prize from Anna at The Eternal Maker for Pings Scrap Bag Challenge, some Fat Eights of lovely Kokka and Echino - happy?  Oh yeah!

I will try to clear my backlog of emails and blog reading later, but apologies if I don't, I may need an early night, after my cocoa!

  1. Glad you enjoyed The Damned - are you sure you're growing old gracefully though? Where's the fun in that?! Love your surprise prize - have fun deciding what to make with them!

  3. I often chuckle to myself when I see 'old folks' at the gigs I attend, it always comes as such a surprise when I catch sight of myself in the mirror and discover I am in fact becoming one of the 'old folks'.

  4. Hee hee, the funniest 'gig' I ever went to was when I was a student, and a friend and I went to see Runrig at the Concert Hall in Glasgow. We were seated, but there was a 'mosh pit' for want of a better description, in the area that is normally the stalls. We near fell off our seats laughing at people our parents' age, and older, all bouncing around to the music, best entertainment ever :oD

I love your happy mail, hope you get to enjoy it before you nod off

  7. Ha ha!! So many Phil Mitchell delegates at anything I go to these days LOL!

I so would have come and rescued you (or more realistically done some people watching myself!)

    Lovely happy post! Yay!

  8. Your night out sounds brilliant! I love people watching. Too bad you couldn't have got a few surreptitious photos to show us. I am right with you on the email blog thing too!

  9. Those Dala horses are too cute! Well deserved runner up prize!

One day you may be the mad oldie! I was this summer at a party with the music of my youth - embarrassed the kids enormously - which of course is half the fun ;D

  10. Sounds like you had a great night and isn't the rule that us oldies need to show the young ones how to have a great time.

  11. Too funny. We have been to concerts where the audience looks like they never even changed their clothes from the first concert...30 years ago. Some people are real fans and some are just odd.

  12. Sounds like lots of fun! I have visions of turning up to see the Stone Roses and realising how damn old and uncool I am now, 20 years on! Your little packages look so yummy. Feel like sharing?!!

  17. Heehee The last Gig I went to my husband and I realised that we almost fitted into the 'Middle aged' category with evreyone else who was there.
I only go to a concert now if there's seating because I'm so old and past it!
    Loving your mail x

  18. LOL love the punky pensioners :-) I'm 33 and would feel too old for a gig now, unless I could get a seat at a side table or something... a la 50's vegas Rat Pack concerts... lol Glad you enjoyed it though! Wasnt captain sensible the Damned? Happy talking talking happy talk....

  19. Aww, thanks for posting about The Damned. It really brings back some fond, old memories. I saw them countless times in high school and college, but on the other side of the pond (Los Angeles). I guess I'll join you and your husband as POAPs, punky old age pensioners. ;) Cheers!

  20. LOL. Husband has just seen that his face band from teenage hood are playing on Friday too! I can't believe EM gas dala horses fabric, I sent mum all round Oslo looking for some last week, and she only lives 20 minutes from EM!

  21. I don't know the Dammed, but if the clientele of the gig all looked like Phil, I'm pretty glad I dont!

Cool goodies, I've been looking at that bag pattern for a while!

  23. My spouse is going on Sunday!! They're one of his favourites and, yes, unfortunately he is more Phil Mitchell than Dave Vanian these days. Hair loss is a terrible thing when all you want to do is fling your fringe around! *grins* He WILL be wearing docs and no doubt a Stiff Little Fingers (or other old rocker) tee, though. You can take his hair away but not his music! Heh.

P.S. The only reason I'm not going is for babysitting reasons. I like any excuse to jump and sing and get all sweaty with strangers. Happy days!

  24. Oh I wish there was a way to share the visual you conjured up of you and hubby at that concert. It may just be something only I find amusing so I will keep it to myself LOL I love your surprise post...very nice.

  25. Hey there,
I am Sana and I've seen your comments everywhere before. Love the name and the owl!
Today I'm coming over from Hoosier Toni. She wrote something about IKEA and mentioned your name. Well, Berlin is the not so secret IKEA capital (having 4 stores alone!). I believe there is no single person in all of Germany who doesnt have an ikea poduct at home ;-) Oh, and my hubby loves Punk and the Damned, too. He introduced me to it but maybe I'm a bit too young *cough* I get some of the punk bands still mixed up but he is proud when I get it right. I do love Dave Vanian's deep voice though! I think I'm gonna go press the follow button now ;-)
Hope to hear back from you.
    Take care, Sana

  27. Glad you had fun...I love to crowd watch. For my 50th we did a number of concerts including Bob Dylan and the Hop Farm festival and there certainly were some very interesting sights :)
