Be careful what you wish for...

It's here, lots and lots of snow.  Actually, not that much, but 6" is way more than the local road gritters can cope with, apparently!

School was open this morning, however the headmaster gave me the option to take the kids straight back home, but for some reason I thought it was a better use of taxpayer's money to try to get to work.

I got half way there, in twice the time it should have; visibility sporadic, road surface slippy and the other drivers on the white-knuckle duel-carriageway, mental! So I did an about turn and headed back home.

I stopped off for some milk in the village, and it was like a scene from Armageddon in Tesco Express, the shelves were pretty much bare, and people were frantically filing up with petrol, I assume in case they were going to have to evacuate to warmer climes!

So I got home, suffering from brain-freeze, and did a run round with the hoover before the school finally closed at 10.30am.

I left the snowball fights and sledge-dragging to the kids, whilst I sewed up my next Stitch Tease block, a 24-incher for Helen.  Bright wonky stars on Kona Ash, but I can't show you anything more than the sneaky peak above, sorry.

Rainbows was unsurprisingly cancelled this evening too, much to the girls' disappointment, so we baked some cookies instead; happy faces all round.

And that was my Snow day.  I hope you have stayed warm (or cool Mrs S!), and are easing nicely into the weekend.  I am off to to do some PLPS stalking xxx

  1. Sounds like not a lot of fun driving, i don't do snow driving, i don't likle it, i'm a chicken! I've been stalking my PLPS partner today, and had a good nose around their blog, lots of fun ideas, too many, but i am determined to get this done early and sent out, no last minute panics on this one. : )

  3. Lovely snowy day here - not a chance of getting out of the drive. Watched rubbish TV, did lots of knitting and cooking and read endless blogs. Sheer bliss!

  6. My children would be so jealous (but they're in bed), we had a tiny smattering this morning and rain ever since!

  8. Oooh scary drivers... Glad I didn't have to go out today (altho' am worried my car will never start again!). Those cookies look yum...

  9. Glad you had a good day. I started mine by falling heftily on my arse and giving myself nicely skinned elbow, snow is not my friend! ;-)

  11. I adore the knock kneed photo of your daughter in the snow! Snow, cookies, sewing (we'll ignore Tescos and the hoovering) - sounds a perfect day :-)

  12. You need to be less conscientious, like me. Never left the house all day and loved it. Pushed himself out as they (voluntary?) target for snowballs. Cookies look good though!

  13. Looks like you had fun...I spent my snowy day travelling back from Devon. Really pretty from the first train but across London and then home was far from fun :(

  14. The schools here closed at lunchtime and we didn't have a drop of snow! The girls look like they had fun

  15. We're a bizarre country - everyone filling up with petrol just when no one can drive anywhere!

  16. We've had horizontal snow today! Not too much lying in the city thankfully, though flights have been cancelled! Jxo

  17. Domestic duties on a snow day? Never!

  18. Looks like your girls had lots of fun! We have had enough snow to be annoying, but not enough for the kids to play in. Good idea to do stitching while your kids played with the snow!

  19. Lol, we still have no snow, arctic winds, but no snow, but it never ceases to amaze me that as soon as a drop of it falls people frantically stock up on bread and milk. I always think it's a good job I don't use either ;o)

Baking sounds like a good replacement to Rainbows to me!

  20. No one goes to the grocery store or to the gas station here when it snows, not even when a real storm is predicted, it would never occur to me to do so. We just press on. I am glad you enjoyed your day.

  21. Slip sliding away! That's what my driving is like at the moment and that's just up our drive! But Maddie - the puppy - is enjoying the snow and brining it all in to share!

  22. You are all so right. Why do we make such a fuss over one fall. Canada must think we are such wimps. Just a dusting here last night but bitterly cold. Love the pink sledges by the way. I am off to stalk for the PLPS too. Machine-less for a week so more sorting than stitching. Keep warm x

  23. We didn't get any of it...very disappointed, seeing that I am the first one to be aloud to stay home at work as I am the furthest away...he,he. We only have those dark and dreary days that has little or no light at all to take a photo. house bound is still ok though....

  25. Good for you for turning around, I once did the same and I had my scariest motoring incident ever happen to me. Only to get to work to turn right back again. Girls look like they had a great time, I'm sure when they came in cold and slushy they enjoyed those cookies :)
