Duty Baking...

By 8am this morning the oven was on and I was consulting my foody guru, (well her blog anyway, as she was probably sleeping off last night's dinner)...

Mwah!
Surnames A-L were on cake duty for pack camp this weekend; so being a one-trick pony, and there may have been a little begging from the kids, flapjacks were the only way to go.

(Surnames M-Z were on crumble/pie, in case you were worried).

I have never made a dud batch, and I can honestly say that is nothing to do with my cooking skills!

So this evening off we went and droped off the lad...

That's blue, not dark grey in the sky - I didn't recognise it either!
... and it is looking a lot more promising than last time!!  The sun even came out as we got there, so dear son was left with a smile on his face.

Tomorrow I get to enjoy a Brownie "fun" day; let's see how long my smile lasts!

A Better Day...

Tuesday was good; there was sunshine, so much sunshine that I came home to sew and had to wear sunglasses!

That'll be five more #economyblockalongs to add to the collection....

I am now at 30 out of 42...

I was planning on getting the blocks finished and top made tomorrow, but I have some new fabrics to play with on a secretive mission, so I may well start something new instead; actually I already started it, and I think I want to spend a little time cutting, and a lot of time hand stitching on the sofa; my day off, so why not!?

And the old first aid badge was removed, and level two stitched on in time, as promised...

... and dear son just got home with 2 more!!  But one was for becoming a Seconder, so proud Mummy doesn't mind xxx

Edited to add - just spotted that I won Sheila's mega-pinnie in the FAL Q4 prize draw - a better day indeed!

Singing in the Rain...

Well that's a bit of a fib, but it is raining, and we did go singing, but that was inside, and it wasn't raining then.

Today's tick off the list was the Cubs & Scouts carol service.  As ever, it was a bit organisationally-challenged; all the packs had made painted jam-jar candle holders, the tea-lights were LED, for health and safety reasons, but I did hear at least 2 smash on the floor, hey ho ho ho!

                         Don't blink!
I did get a start on my parent's table mats too, and I even pre-washed the Essex Linen, a first, and I was pleasantly surprised by the lack of fraying and tangle at the end.  I am not going to make a habit of it, but I reckoned this was the worthy exception to the rule.

So I am settling in for the Great British Sewing Bee Christmas special and writing a 'last minute' food shopping list, because the shops are shut for a whole day, and you know how we have to prepare as if they are going to be shut until New Year!

Friday Fings!

A potentially quite calm day was kicked into touch at about 9 am when I re-read the letter about camp and spotted the part about all Cubs to bring a homemade cake with them!  Bugger.

I don't do baking, other than that banana bread recently, so, with a bit of wishful thinking and a super special, and thankfully helpful friend, I jotted down the recipe for chocolate flapjacks, (having sampled many at the weekend), and dashed off to get supplies, including a baking tin, (oh I know, say nothing!).

Obviously we had to sample some, to make sure the Cubs were going to be OK, and I have been told by the girls to make more tomorrow, and that they want flapjack instead of cake for their birthday... in November!  Success then.

More in-keeping with the me you have come to know and love, a delivery from Pink Castle's 30% off skinny bolt sale last week; 2yrs of AMH voile and some Liberty Lifestyle...

And I have managed to crack on a little with my Super Tote...

I have got to the stage of basting the elasticated pockets to the lining, so fingers crossed it will be a June 1st finish.

Finally, dear son got dropped off at camp, complete with flapjacks, and it looks like they are going to have a great time...

So that'll be May then; finishing on a high in both temperature and spirit.  See you in June xxx
