Time out...

Hubby and I had a nice quiet couple of hours yesterday whilst the kids went off to shout at Robin Hood and his merry men.  With fabric shopping not on the cards in Sevenoaks, I went for the next best thing... stationary.

I love Paperchase, I love a bargain; I could have spent a fortune in the sale, but I only wanted a 2014 diary, so this little lot was as restrained as it gets!

For Christmas though, my sister did send me an Eclectic Maker gift certificate, so I will be having a good think about what to spend that on in the New Year.

However I am hoping that 2014 is going to be the year of the stash - not complete fabric abstention, oh how I really would love to have the discipline to sign up to Jess and Rebecca's Fabriholics Anonymous, but it would never happen!!  But I really am going to try and be a more discerning shopper; a healthy fabric diet, so to speak!

Stop sniggering ;)

  1. I'm doing it...in the hopes of getting to FQ retreat in 2015. Not sure 2014 is going to work.

  2. Ooh, lots of pretty looking washi!

I can't fabric diet, people keep wanting things I don't have in my stash in their bee blocks and things! Damn those changing fashions...

  3. We went to Cambridge today and John Lewis had a fantastic fabric sale. I was very restrained and only bought a metre!!

  4. Damn! I went into Oxford on Thurs and was going to get a little diary like that in Paperchase but I got one in M&S sale and forgot to go into Paperchase at all when I came out! I did a fabric diet once and didn't buy any fabric for 6 months. It was very liberated and I probably should sign up...

  5. I should sign up, I really need to do something about my ever expanding stash, especially as I rarely seem to get much time to actually sew! :o)

  6. I'm not a stash accumulater but my scraps could use a read-out. That's my goal for 2014 - as many quilts as I can using them!

  7. I definitely need to stop accumulating and start using. I'm hoping to have a bit of a sort out as at the moment all my stash is just piled in a big box. Paperchase - I try not to go in too often as it always ends up being expensive!

  8. I'm the same, I want to sign up and I also don't want to sign up to abstain. I know I can't do it but I have been good so far and avoided the end of year sales.

  9. Your fabric plan is a good one. It sounds like the direction I'm going!

  10. Very fun tapes and ribbons! I always want to be the kind of person who keeps a diary, but never stick with it! Good luck on restraining yourself!

  14. Love the look of those tapes. Good luck with the restrained fabric shopping next year. I was talking to my DDs this morning about me not buying much fabric - as I have plenty until some has been used up. They offered to help me make space by putting my fabric into their fabric drawer, bless! At 10 and 8 I'm not sure that they should even be allowed their own stash!

  15. I have as much chance of not buying fabric as I have of winning the lottery!

  17. I am sure the fabric sellers are just cringing at the fabric diets going on around blogland! I am trying your approach also -- not just buying anything because it's pretty. Mainly I am going to do my best to sew up the projects that I've already bought fabric for -- once I'm through those items, then I can buy fabric. I'm pretty good about finishing items but I do have a few piled up waiting to be sewn. Good luck!

  19. Don't tell your kids, mine used to put post it notes all over the house and my pantry telling me no more fabric! We would make deals, what she failed to see in those negotiations was the deadlines suited me very well :)

  20. I try and not buy, but then I see something i *have* to have, or am given soething that needs something else to go with it ... (oh and I have no will power!)
