Good and bad fortune in the shape of my latest make.
Those wee Liberty/Heather Ross hexies that kept me occupied on my journey to Susan's and back were carefully planned to make a Lisa Lam Fortune Cookie purse; the pattern is included in the latest copy of Mollie Makes. I bought a couple of the frames ages ago, and so now was the time.
Only it wasn't, well almost. I made up the pouch yesterday, it looked perfect; I was thrilled.
I glued in the first side, bit of a squeeze, but the second side was never going to work. I tried, twice. The pouch was just too small for the frame; I don't even think if I had scrimped on the seam allowances that it would have worked. Bugger.
But determined not to let that get the better of me, I pulled a regular frame and it was the perfect size. So once again good fortune has made this pouch my own...
I am going to use this one for the reels of thread and bigger wotnots that don't fit in my Patchwork Please! embroidery case; sorry all you ladies who feel that I should be handing that one over - it ain't going to happen!!!
And because it was a sunny Bank Holiday, we headed out to the Steyning Country Fair. There were lots of animals...
... lots of general fun and lovely grub...
... then home for more garden time. My afternoon incorporated a lot of this...
... looking at blue skies and having my nails painted with water and paintbrushes, possibly not as relaxing as it sounds.
Tomorrow is forecast for rain again, I have shopping, ironing and cleaning, all that boring indoor stuff to do that I have been ignoring in return for a great long weekend, so I mustn't grumble. xxx
It sounds more replacing than my day! The pouch looks perfect
ReplyDeleteI'd made a tonne of framed purses by the time I got round to buying a fortune cookie clutch kit (cheap way to get a frame and the pattern) and I have to say I swore like a trooper when it came to gluing and it's the only framed purse I've made that ended up looking like a dogs breakfast. Shame I bought extra frames at the same time because it'll be a long while before I go through that again.
ReplyDeleteOh and painting nails with water...what's that all about then?!
What a great day! I am so jealous about the sunshine. The pouch matches perfect to the embroidery pouch. This piggy is just gorgeous
ReplyDeleteSometimes even super special and beautiful pouches just want to be framed as regular. :)
ReplyDeleteLooks like your clan had a fabulous time!
I didn't understand any of that technical stuff about frames as i am yet to make my first one, but it sounds annoying if that helps!?! Looks beautiful though, and a lovely day at the fair :o)
ReplyDeleteGreat that you saved the pretty hexies! Those household chores are always lurking....
ReplyDeleteCute pouch! I haven't ventured into frame pouches yet. Even though I do have that kit from Molly Makes... Looks like you had a nice sunny day - how great that it coincide with a holiday:)
ReplyDeleteThe pouch is cute as can be! Thanks for sharing.
ReplyDeleteLovely purse and glad you got sunshine because it wasn't down here in Devon.....thankfully the rain didn't fall until we were on our way home though.
ReplyDeleteThe pouch looks gorgeous - you can't tell the angst that went in to it! Yay to sunshiney bank holiday mondays - letting little ones paint your nails with water is definitely the way forward, if not a bit ticklish?! I'll join you in booing the boring Tuesday chores (and I think potty training is being added in to mine - double boo!) Sx
ReplyDeleteThe purse looks great, Glad you got to enjoy the sun, that's it for the summer I suspect
ReplyDeleteGlad you sorted the purse, I very nearly had that problem with a student in my last workshop, I made her unpick and resew with a smaller seam allowance - I wasn't going to let her go home without a finished purse! Quite jealous of your sun today.
ReplyDeleteThat's the cutest wee hexie pouch! Love it! Jxo
ReplyDeleteGlad you were able to beat it into submission! Was miserable here today, cold, wet and windy - booo!
ReplyDeletelove the purse! Those frames get me every time though. Grrrr!
ReplyDeleteThe purse turned out great but now I'm thinking of dim sum :-/ Looks like a lovely bank holiday AND the sun shined!
ReplyDeleteStinker pot! I can't believe you had frame issues! Good for you pushing through and creating something great. Looks like you had a wonderful day :)
ReplyDeleteThe purse looks wonderful - I wonder if the original pattern was wrong?
ReplyDeleteSorry about the frame but glad you worked it out. Sounds like you had a wonderful weekend.
ReplyDeleteThank you for sharing your experience with this Lisa Lam purse pattern. I am having the exact same problem with the frame!! This is the first time I have tried a frame purse and I was sooo careful with my seam allowance, but no way is that little sucker gonna fit that freakin' frame! I have been huffin' and puffin' all night with the pesky thing! Can you tell I'm a tad upset?
ReplyDeleteWould you mind if I asked what size frame you ended up using and where I might get one? I'm also thinking I might go for one of the ones that are sewn on rather than glued - cos, seriously, I have got glue everywhere! What's that all about? On a brighter note, I love your blog and I'm glad you had a great day :)
p.s. I just read this comment back and it does make me sound quite barking, but I'm not really, honest - just having a 'bad frame' day :) Thanks in advance for your help in restoring my sanity!
I'm not sure if I am a no reply blogger? My email address is nk51nat@icloud.com. Thanks!
