Simple Patchwork...

I made a quilt.  Yes a whole one, in two days. I needed to do something constructive, something heartfelt, something for a dear family friend, so I did.

100 unique six inch finished squares, an IKEA and solids backing, simple diagonal quilting and solid binding…

I love the simplicity of patchwork, no fuss, no pretence just beautiful fabrics.  I hope the recipient loves it too.

It finished at 60" square, pieced with 50wt 2021 Aurifil, and quilted with 40wt 2310; all fabrics came from stash.  I only had to buy the wadding, which was from the bolt at a sewing shop in town; I am not sure what make it is, but it was a quality 80/20 cotton blend and washed up really nicely.

I actually started with the backing fabric as my colour palette inspiration for this quilt, which I think worked out to be a beautiful combination.

Across the river...

Yesterday between parcels and partying, I managed some basting!

I gave the deck the elbow in favour of the conservatory floor as the Across the Sea quilt is a bit of a beast, and bigger than my usual spraying-box set up.

So here we have an as accurately aligned bit of spray basting as I will need for the quilting.  It is not millimetre-perfect, but as I have decided not to do my usual straight line mirror quilting, it won't matter.

After spraying, I pinned the block corners out of interest to check my lining up, and to keep the acres of fabric from coming apart.

So I am ready to quilt, and I can't wait!

I know you are all eager to hear how we got on in IKEA, and I am pleased to report that I have two big packages to open and get constructing - I will show you once built, hopefully later in the week; they meant the kids had to travel home with their knees under their chins, but I can live with that!

We have obligatory serviettes, notebooks, wrapping paper etc etc and a pair of wooden hangers for classier quilt-related photos!

I got rather a lot of fabric, but all with purpose; it was so cheap it would have been downright idiotic not to.  Oh, and this, which even I am astounded at how excited I was, once the wheels were on...

I can't wait for school pick-up tomorrow!

PS. Hubby had the meatballs, I went for spinach and ricotta ravioli, and the trio of little cakes!

This, that and the other...

OK, firstly I won't go all melodramatic and talk about the day the music died or anything, but I am sad, but this makes me happy...

So, I had to go back to the dentist this afternoon, as my newly boosted tooth was a little too big; 1/10th of a centimetre according to the man, about 7cms by my reckoning; felt like a sabre-tooth tiger.  So I have been filed down to size and am now a lot more comfortable than I was when I woke up this morning...  What a relief!

As I have nothing of my own to show you this evening, here are a couple of things you may be interested in instead...

Firstly, lovely, although frequently a naughty no-reply blogger, Annabella is having a brilliant giveaway over at her beautiful blog Life's Rich Pattern.  The scrummy prize is in collaboration with The Intrepid Thread.  If you want to know more,  please pop over and take a look.

Also spotted today was this great hack on IKEA Hackers.  These posts appear in my Reader List, and I tend to not to even open them, but the words 'Organized Sewing Room' couldn't be ignored!

We are getting the chance to go to the Swedish super store on Sunday when my parents will play guard to the kiddies whilst hubby and I get to celebrate our anniversary in style a couple of days early.  I will be on the hunt for some storage and no doubt some fabric!

Well I have gathered together some bits to tinker with this evening...

...so unless anyone has any objections, I'll be off x
